Work Package 3: Removing Barriers in Migrants’ Access to Basic Services: The Role of Service Providers
WP3 focuses on service providers’ viewpoint and role in ensuring migrants’ access to basic public services in the four Member States targeted by this action.
WP3 concentrates on two key aspects:
- those related to the organizational capacity, resources, and legal instruments necessary for an adequate service provision, from the perspective of first-line practitioners and;
- latent attitudes, cultural beliefs, potential stereotypes and prejudices among these providers that may hinder migrants’ access to services.
This WP will first map the legal and organizational resources made available to services providers in direct contact with TCNs covering professionals from the five core areas analysed in the four targeted countries:
- employment,
- healthcare,
- housing,
- primary and secondary education, and
- social assistance.
For each area, we will collect information by conducting approximately 20 interviews with service providers aiming to ensure an equal balance across practitioners from the five areas analysed. For the education field, we will complement the interviews with an online survey using a conjoint experiment design to be conducted in Spain, to better capture how latent attitudes or preferences affect educators’ behaviour when dealing with diverse groups.
The information gathered will then serve to develop and implement a set of actions aiming to: a) inform policymakers about barriers in TCNs’ access to services, as identified by professionals with first-hand experience and; b) enhance the adequacy of the service provided by these professionals, by means of training and tailored guidance on how to deal with diversity challenges.
